October News

As per usual, life has been busy and interesting at both our surgeries. Harriet has performed not one but two emergency C-sections in the last few weeks, delivering a total of 15 healthy puppies! Bonfire Night is also just around the corner. We receive lots of queries from pet owners whose dogs and cats struggle with fireworks. There are supplements and medications that can offer short term relief from anxiety, and steps you can take to help pets cope, such as closing curtains and playing music to disguise the pops and bangs and creating a safe ‘den’ to which they can retreat. Depending on the age of your pet and severity of their reaction, it may also be possible to gradually desensitise your pet to fireworks. For more info on pets and fireworks, please visit the ‘longer reads’ section of our website, or give us a call and we will be happy to advise.

You may have been following the current news stories about the rising costs of veterinary treatment. Vet bills have risen in recent years, and we are aware that this is a real source of concern for many owners. As an independent practice, we are able to set our own prices, but we do have to balance affordability with providing a high standard of care and running a viable practice. We are fully supportive of the CMA findings and recommendations as we have always valued the trust our clients place in us. We try to be transparent, publishing the costs of the most common treatments on our website, and providing estimates ahead of any procedures. We also now offer a monthly health plan to help discount and spread the expense of routine care. If you have concerns about the costs of treatment, please do chat to us about all the available options. The welfare of the pets in our care is our priority, and we never want cost to be a barrier to care.

We were thrilled at the turnout for our ‘diagnosing and managing allergies in pets’ client evening. If you have a pet with allergies but couldn’t come along, do get in touch, as we still have some owner information packs available. We are hoping to run more client evening in the coming months. If there are topics you feel would particularly helpful, please let us know.

We are running a Church Street Vets ‘recommend a friend’ offer through Cambridge Indie until the end of October. If you recommend us to a friend who is new to the surgery, you’ll receive a £20 account credit when they come in for their first consultation, and they’ll also get £10 off! Just mention the offer when booking.

Our next event (back by popular demand) is our charity ‘Pets Christmas Grotto’ on Saturday December 6th from 2-4pm at our Church Street Surgery. There will be a ‘Cake and Charity Christmas Card’ sale, mulled wine and mince pies, a present for every pet AND a chance to have their photo taken with our very own Father Christmas!

All the best,

Patrick, Harriet and all the CSV team.
