December News
We hope you are all keeping healthy and calm in the run up to Christmas.
It was lovely to see so many of you at out Pet’s Christmas Grotto at the start of the month. We enjoyed the wagging tails as much as the cakes and the mulled wine, and, through the sale of our lovely Christmas cards and raffle tickets, managed to raise over £300 for our conservation charity, From the Brink. Christmas cards are still for sale at both surgeries, so if you are running low, do pop in!
Christmas is a busy time, and whilst many of our pets enjoy extra company and excitement, some pets can find it a little overwhelming. Our ‘Christmas Survival Guide’ in the longer reads section of our website has some top tips for minimizing stress for your pets over the festive season, along with the super useful Vets Now ‘Chocolate Toxicity Calculator’ and contact details for the animal poison line.
We will be open until 12pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, and open as usual in the morning on Saturday 27th December. Our opening times for the Christmas period are on the home page of the website, along with the contact number for Vets24, who can provide 24-hour care should your pet become unwell when the surgery is closed. If you need any medications for your pet, please let us know as soon as possible.
There has been a recent outbreak of Kennel cough in Cambridge. Kennel cough is a highly contagious respiratory infection, characterised by a persistent dry, retching cough, which may get worse after excercise, sometimes accompanied by a raised temperature, lack or appetite, sneezing and runny nose and eyes. The infection is uncomfortable but not too serious for most dogs but can be more problematic in very old or very young dogs, dogs that are otherwise unwell or breeds predisposed to breathing problems. There is a vaccination available that offers protection against the most common strains of Kennel Cough. If you have any worries about your dog’s health, want to book a vaccination or check if they are protected, please do get in touch.
We would like to thank you for all your support throughout 2025. It’s been a busy and exciting year, and we couldn’t have done it without you!
Happy Christmas!
Patrick, Harriet and all the CSV team.
